NS Root >> OpenSSH
OpenSSH on Windows v3.4-3

This project is shut down, but Michael Johnson has created a follow-up project to continue the work. You can get information at his website.

  OpenSSH
This OpenSSH project is shutting down. I no longer have the time to maintain a package that is, for the most part, unnecessary due to improvements in the installation process of Cygwin. If you need some starter info on getting an OpenSSH server installed in the cygwin environment try this site, or the cygwin mailing list.

Thanks to everyone for supporting the package, and for all those CDs. I've thoroughly enjoyed my time on this package.

User Comments:
Thanks for all your hard work that helped me adapt and adopt some of my Unix/Linux procedures for Windows.

I wish you much success as you move on...

Bill D.

Mark,
Thank you very much for the Windows OpenSSH. I have never used the server but I do rely on the clients.

Cheers,
    -- Art Z.

Hi ;)

I'm a relative newcomer to your package and, whilst I'm sorry to see you go, want to thank you for providing it. Congratulations on your new-found free time :)

Hi Mark,

Thanks for all your dedication to this very helpful project. It is a pity that you give this up, but I understand your reasons all to well. I wish you all the best.

Kind regards,
Jens Mickerts

Mark,

Many thanks for your work so far and best of luck for the future.

Rob

Hej,

Actually you can get arround having both cygwin and your sshd package on the same system. It is some regedit-ing and moving things arround but is possible.
Anyway, thanks for a good job.

cheerz,
Adi

Hi Mark,
thanks for all the time and work you put into this effort. You did a terrific job! It would be great if somebody or a group of people would take over from you. I liked OpenSSH for Windows because I did not have to install Cygwin. I always thought Cygwin was too much overhead for just wanting SSH functionality.

Thanks again and good luck in your job future carreer!

Hi Mark,

It's a shame you are stopping work on it. I use the package everyday and found it super easy to install. I'll have to look into the cygwin stuff.

BTW, if your interested in what people are using it for, take a look at this;

http://www.buzzsurf.com/surfatwork.htm

It's a page I was working on that explains one cool use of SSH on Windows. It's not totally complete, (mostly because I wasn't sure my employer would approve).

Hey Mark,

Thank you much for making this available, it was useful a few times. I'm sure others share the same sentiment as well. Good luck with your new endeavors. If you could, you might release whatever sources or methods you've used to make this package as this may help others pick up the work, if they need such a package.

Sad to see you go. I have preferred your OpenSSH for Windows over the Cygwin one. I'll have to see what the cygwin boys are up to. It has been a while since I checked because yours worked so well for our apps.

Thanks for the time and effort and best wishes for the holidays.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for all the effort you have put in; certainly got me going on SSH!

May I suggest a valedictory? You might pass, for example, your sftp filename-wildcarding code to the people at the PuTTY project where your code is nicer than their psftp in several places. Just an impertinent thought for you. B^>

Thanks again for all your hard work and good engineering.

Rgds
Damon

Sorry to hear that Mark. Thanks for your wonderful work. It will be missed. All the best in your new job!

Cheers,
Avijit Sen

Hi Mark,

It was a very good program, but unfortunately needs to come to an end. I understand your constraints and fully appreciate the work you have done till date, to keep it an open free solution. I would like to thank you for all the help I've got from this package.

Thanks again,
Sachin Sawant

F*#%!

Thanks for all of your efforts. You've made my remote administration life easier than I could believe.

I wish you the very best of luck in your future endeavors.

Eric

Well I hope you will re-consider, I have found your package VERY stable and usefull. I think 99% of the problems I have had has been Pebkac's. I understand how projects can grow out of hand but I think you picked a good area to build a usefull tool for the community. I hope you will change your mind, but if not most of us understand so party on!

Thank you for such a great (free) product, and best of luck at your new job!

Mark,

Thanks for your help on the forum, and for the package itself. Having an ssh server on Windows has proved to be a very useful tool for me.

Best of luck,
Ashish

In case nobody else takes the time to say it, Mark, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK! I have have used and appreciated having the package quite a bit and was glad not to have to do the work myself :-)

Dave Kinchlea

Mark,
First, please accept my thanks on the OpenSSH for Windows project. This has worked very well of us and our customer so far.

RLX Technologies has qualified this product on its Blade Servers for the Windows 2000 environment.

Thanks, Bindya.

Mark,
It is unfortunate news to hear that you will no longer offer you OpenSSH implementation. It was a great offering and truly appreciated. However, I do understand your decision not to continue.

I would like to thank you for the time and effort you put into the OpenSSH project. It will be missed.

Thank you,
Pete Cotterill

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!
(cries of despair being lost in voidness)

Your package was the best... And I hate cygwin.

Please? pretty please? with a cherry (or two or ten) on top?

So sorry to hear this.
Windows openSSH has been wonderful. This is excellent work. I just want you to know a lot of people out here really appreciate this project and all of your work.

Good luck in whatever your new endeavor is.
Again, thanks for all that you have done.

Hi Mark,
I'd just like to know if you decided to stop working on Win OpenSSH for ever...:-( Anyway, you have done a pretty good job on it and I want to thank you very much for your effort & product that I have been recently using.

Once more thanks a lot and be sure if I knew such programming, I would help you! Unfortunately I don't...:-(

Best wishes from Hong Kong of one Czech guy (originally form Czech Republic, Europe:-) working here & good luck in your new job position,

Mark,
Thanks for all the awesome work with OpenSSH on Windows. You will be missed. Good luck on your future endeavours. I never bought you a CD, and I feel I still do. Let me know if there's one you still want, and I'll buy it for ya. Take care,

Regards,
Lenny

Hi Mark,
I sure understand that, I've been exactly where you are with client apps several times. Sorry to see it though. Do you still plan to provide file downloads via the mirrors? Or do you want to shut that down too?

Ric Woodson

This is truly sad news. What a great project that has been. We have used it and had it save our asses a number of times (when Windohs GUI's weren't available). We'll be very sorry to see it go, but.....we understand that you must be pulled in other directions. Thank you very much. We appreciate it.

No reason I cant keep using the most current version, right?, at least until some very serious flaw is discovered in it, which hopefully wont happen for a long time.

Thanks,
Jason B. Sjobeck

D'oh! The day after I talked it up to my boss, too :P. Guess you gotta do what you gotta do *shrug*.

Hope things are going well down your way...

- Joel

Dear Mark,
I thank you for the quality provided within the developped package. It was a real pleasure to use it.

I wish you the best for the future.

Best regards,
Geoffroy de LAMALLE

Hi Mark,
